More on Zech 14:12

Zec 14:12And this shall be the plague
wherewith the LORD will smite
all the people that have fought
against Jerusalem; Their flesh
shall consume away while they
stand upon their feet, and their
eyes shall consume away in their
holes, and their tongue shall
consume away in their mouth.

I wanted to go back to look at the language more
closely in this powerful and prophetic verse which
foretells our own times.

'Plague' is the Hebrew word: Maggephah
.
מגפה

It is a form of the Hebrew word for- "to
strike, or to be stricken." It is used 21
times in the Old Testament, (which is
the number of God=7.7.7.) Biblical
numbers are very important in some
prophetic verses and add layers of
mystical perception.

It denotes strict judgement from God
for the apostasy and idolatry of men,
more than ordinary prosaic diseases.
It comes in dramatic ways, or in
devastation from natural disaster and
battles where their enemies prevail.

Authorized Version (KJV) Translation Count — Total: 26
Exd 9:14 For I will at this time send all my
plagues maggephah upon thine heart , and
upon thy servants , and upon thy people; that
thou mayest know that [there is] none like
me in all the earth.

In the instances of the High Priest's
intercession, the plagues can be stayed.
God is merciful.

Num 16:50 And Aaron returned unto Moses
unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:
and the plague maggephah was stayed

This is a great story about how the Philistines
intercepted the Arc of the Covenant and
they were plagued with mice and tumors.
Hahaha. To appease YHWH, they had to
make up gold mice and gold tumors and
return the Arc to end the plague:

1Sa 6:4 Then said they, What [shall be] the
trespass offering which we shall return to him?
They answered , Five golden emerods, and five
golden mice , [according to] the number of the lords
of the Philistines : for one plague maggephah
[was] on you all, and on your lords.

David interceded to stay the plague on Israel
due to a census he ordered.

These passages inform us that God is quick to
forgive and to stay plagues, IF we repent and
acknowledge our sins.

1Ch 21:17 And David said unto God , [Is it] not I [that]
commanded the people to be numbered ? even I it is that
have sinned and done evil indeed ; but [as for] these sheep
, what have they done ? let thine hand , I pray thee, O LORD
my God , be on me, and on my father's house ; but not on thy people
, that they should be plagued maggephah.

Zechariah 14 is similar to other great prophetic
visions such as in Isaiah 34:

Isa 34:2
For the indignation of the LORD
[is] upon all nations, and [his]
fury upon all their armies: he hath
utterly destroyed them, he hath
delivered them to the slaughter.

The phrase "consume away" (maqaq מקק)
is said 3 times for emphasis. It is another
specific and strategic word. It is used in this
form 10 times in the Old Testament:
Lev 26:39 And they that are left of you shall
pine away maqaq in their iniquity in your enemies
' lands ; and also in the iniquities of their fathers
shall they pine away with them.

In Leviticus 26, maqaq מקק is interpreted
as "pine away" but "consume" would also
be a fitting synonym for translation.
Each time the word maqaq is used, it
is in relation to sin. Just as plague was
a penalty for idolatry and sin, maqaq
and the consumption of the flesh, is
a result of our iniquity.

Psa 38:5 My wounds stink [and] are corrupt maqaq
because of my foolishness .
\
Eze 4:17 That they may want bread and water ,
and be astonied one with another , and consume
away
maqaq for their iniquity .

Where the plague and consumption in
the past was protracted, or gradual, in
this last plague, the judgment will come
immediately and swiftly consume the
flesh of those in the world who fought
against Israel, for it's symbolic footstool
and marker of God's place, not for it's
own righteousness, but, for the sake
of Christ, and God's promise to Abraham
to preserve a remnant of his seed.

Israel will be the sorcerer's stone, so to
speak, which will be the catalyst, or
the instrument of world devastation.
In Revelation, 1/3 of the world is
burnt and 1/3 of the water is poisoned.
It sounds like radiation. Of course
it could be a divine source of judgment,
and a plague like in Sodom and Gomorrah
on a world scale, too.
